Seeking recommendations on a portable recording device. Dictaphone? Edirol? Something else? Need to record uncompressed & compressed audio.

Ability to plug in external mic as well as having an internal one a plus. Would like to be able to record and store at least 3-4 hours uncompressed audio.
Myself and @mmbhg use Sony's ICD MX20 to good effect. It records the content for podcasting.ie as well. I use several external mics with my three recorders.
@topgold Many thanks, I know you put your equipment to heavy use so appreciate the endorsement. It was one I came across and had on my list to investigate.
ICD MX20 is a DOG! Does not record uncompressed audio and the audio format it uses is apparently not readable on a Macintosh. I cannot figure out how to turn it off without pulling the batteries, nothing in docs or elsewhere. It's a POS.
Found an update to Sony's Digital Voice Editor that works on Vista. Booted into Vista on my MacBookPro and it imports and converts the .msv files to .mp3 files fine. Quality still leaves a lot to be desired but I'll probably keep it.
Mahalo. I didn't see that as an option but will look again. Was rushing a bit to get out of the office when I finally got things working. Hopefully can do as you suggest. Thanks.

ICD MX20 ordered. Looks like a winner. Research interviews to commence shortly.

Trying to figure if I'll lose less money on this by reselling on eBay rather than trying to arrange for a return with the NY seller.

I don't convert from MSV directly to MP3. From MSV to WAV to MP3 gives me broadcast quality from the ICD MX-20.
