Why don't you try Hictu? www.hictu.com A microblogging platform to build your own social network, creating your video directly from the browser...

What's the main aim for your community? Blog or forums?

@giavac: Mahalo, will take a look at it; hadn't heard of it before. Needs to be localizable (entire interface into Hawaiian), support UTF-8 and we either need to host it ourselves or have a way to isolate our community of Hawaiian speakers.

@seanmcn - needs to be full service - email, chat, forums (public and private), blogs. We've been using a system called FirstClass for about 15 years but have issues with localization and support for Unicode in the localized client and deploying via the web instead of their proprietary client software. It's something like Lotus Notes.

You could probably pull that off with Joomla and a little bit of work!

Been looking at Moodle, Sakai, things of that ilk. Facebook is exactly what we are looking for but they have no localization program that I know of.

Looked at Joomla before and wrote it off for some reason that I can't recall. Will take another look, mahalo!

Hoping that there are some new collaboration tools in OS X server (as rumors have stated) that will enable me to use that. I already run three of them, what's one more? ;-)
