Overlooked in the discussion were some pretty sweet mobile synchronization tools: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/ Nothing groundbreaking, but I bet it works better than 99% of what's out there, and in a way your grandmother could use it.

I don't think that 500-600 is unreasonable if you provide some guidance and tutoring on the system and are willing to answer some emails and/or F2F support for a limited amount of time or for a specified number of hours after the install. If it was just to set up a site and walk away with no commitment for support - may 1/4 of that. I haven't set up a MT for years, mostly use WP, which usually takes all of 5 minutes including upload time.
Its important to make it clear up front what you are providing. My ISP back home hates setting up WP accounts for clients because they think that support is included in their basic email and connectivity package. So they expect him to install all the plugins and themes they want, and do all the updates for them as long as they have their accounts on the system.
Personally I don't set up many sites commercially; it's mostly for friends. I give them an hour or two of tutoring on FTP'ing up files, plugins, updates and they're on their own from their. If someone else really wanted me to do it for them it would have to be worth my time. For a basic set up - I install and configure the system and no further commitments - I'd probably charge 125-150. If they expected any more support from me, it'd be in the 500-600 range, and I'd make sure they knew that I would teach them the basics of uploading, upgrading and maintaining, but that it would not be for an indefinite period of time, and at the end of that time they would be on their own or need to pay for my support on an hourly basis. I've under-valued my time for years, and it's a tough habit to break.

I agree with Mulley on some points, but how often do you do an install and simply walk away? I'd build in a few hours of hand-holding for the first few days/weeks of website ownerships, rather than quote lower and then start charging more to teach them how to upload themes, plugins and some of the less obvious features. If they can't set the site up themselves, chances are you aren't going to be able to just hand them the keys to the blog.

If you feel so inclined go right ahead ;-) Many people in Dunedin thanked us for bringing Hawai‘i weather with us. They say it was the best summer they've had in 20 years. We're accepting offers to other chilly climates to bring our fair weather magnetism. Ireland can reapply for our services in 2010.
